PEOPLE-RUCO

Nisma për Ndryshim Shoqëror ARSIS has officially launched a new Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) programme as a grantee of the RYCOgnizing YPS Granting Scheme, implemented by the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The project aims to empower young people to participate in local decision-making actively and to lead community-based initiatives that promote peace, inclusion, and the prevention of violence, hate speech, and disinformation. Grounded in the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda, the initiative places young people at the center of local action, dialogue, and policy engagement.

Key project activities

Throughout the implementation period, the project will engage young people through a structured set of activities designed to strengthen leadership, participation, and resilience:

RYCOgnizing YPS: Meaningful Youth Participation in the Western Balkans is a project implemented by the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. The project supports civil society organizations across the Western Balkans to advance youth-led initiatives aligned with the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda, focusing on its five pillars:

  • Participation
  • Protection
  • Prevention
  • Partnerships
  • Disengagement and Reintegration

RYCO plays a key role in contextualizing the global YPS agenda within the Western Balkans, acting as a bridge between international policy frameworks and local realities, and ensuring that young people are recognized as active contributors to peace and security.

A commitment to local impact

In line with the RYCO Strategy 2025–2027, this programme contributes to:

  • Fostering youth opportunities,
  • Supporting multipliers, and
  • Advocating and raising awareness.

By working closely with local authorities, civil society actors, and community stakeholders, the project contributes to strengthening youth participation, prevention, and partnerships—key pillars of the YPS agenda. The initiative seeks to ensure that youth engagement goes beyond one-off activities and contributes to longer-term, locally rooted change. Young people involved in the programme will have opportunities to develop leadership skills, engage in policy dialogue, and take ownership of actions that promote peaceful and inclusive communities.
